With more than 75 cats and kittens available for adoption, the Kansas Humane Society is hosting a special promotion today — free cats and kittens from 2 to 4 p.m.
Free adoptions will be offered on a first come, first served basis until all felines are adopted or until 4 p.m. There is a limit of two cat adoptions per household.
The cats have been spayed or neutered and have received necessary exams and vaccinations, as well as microchips. Each adoption comes with 30-day pet insurance and a 5-pound bag of Science Diet food.
To adopt a cat or kitten, visit the Humane Society at 3313 N. Hillside, call 316-524-9196 or visit www.kshumane.org for more information.
'Mission Pawsible' fundraiser tonight
"Mission Pawsible," a fundraiser for the Sedgwick County Animal Response Team, is from 7 to 10 p.m. today at the Farm Credit Bank Building, 245 N. Waco.
The event will include music, wine, tapas and a silent auction. Tickets are $32.50 if purchased in advance at the SCART website — http://sedgwickcoart.org — or $35 at the door.

Donations will help provide temporary shelter, food and supplies for pets during a disaster and trained volunteers to operate the shelter.
Dog wash for a good cause starts today
Fans of the RETAIN summer dog wash will be happy to know that the service is back for the season, starting today.
Every Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m. through Sept. 3, weather permitting, volunteers will shampoo, rinse and towel off dogs for a requested donation of $4 for a small or medium-sized dog and $5 for a large dog.
Proceeds from the dog wash, held outside Heartland Animal Hospital, 4100 N. Woodlawn in Bel Aire, go to RETAIN, a local group that helps pay for spay and neuter surgeries for pets whose owners can't afford them.
