Miniature horse show coming Aug. 5-8

The American Miniature Horse Association will hold its central region show Aug. 5-8 at the Kansas Coliseum pavilions, 85th Street North off I-135.

More than 200 miniature horses from across the nation will be on display, taking part in activities such as jumping, driving and navigating obstacles.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, go to www.amha.org.

Kennel club offers conformation classes

The Wichita Kennel Club will offer beginning conformation classes, teaching people how to prepare their dogs for a show, starting Aug. 10.

Classes will be Tuesdays at 7 p.m. for six weeks at the kennel club, 3448 N. Emporia. The fee is $65.

Cowley County HS to celebrate birthday

Cowley County Humane Society, 7648 222nd Road in Winfield, is celebrating its seventh birthday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7.

To celebrate, CCHS is waiving all fees on adult cats now through Aug. 7, and kittens are only $40. Adoption fees on dogs will also be discounted.

As at all birthday parties, gifts are appreciated. The wish list includes: canned cat and dog food, cleaning supplies, copy paper, new collars and leashes, cat toys, bedding and towels. Monetary donations are always appreciated.

RETAIN dog wash open for business

The RETAIN dog wash is open for business at Heartland Animal Hospital, 4100 N. Woodlawn in Bel Aire.

Today and every Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m. through Sept. 4, weather permitting, volunteers will shampoo, rinse and towel off dogs for a requested donation of $4 for a small or medium-sized dog and $5 for a large dog.

Proceeds go to RETAIN, a local group that helps pay to spay and neuter pets whose owners can't afford the surgeries.
