The Eagle received more than 200 entries in its 10th annual Holiday Pet Photo Contest — mostly of dogs and cats but also bunnies, ferrets, guinea pigs, horses, a cow and a pet rock.

This year's first-place winner was a photo of Skye, a golden retriever wearing a wreath and holding a candy cane in his mouth, submitted by Sondra and Brad Ashens of Wellington.

Second place went to Cindy Kardatzke of Wichita, for her photo of Chester, her white-and-gold long-haired cat, lounging under the Christmas tree.

And third place went to Shari Beck for her photo of five dachshund-mix puppies she fostered for the Kansas Humane Society.

The winners were featured in The Eagle on Dec. 27. Here are more of our favorite holiday pet photos. To see more, go to WichitaPaws.com and click on "Contest Winners."
