The American Red Cross will hold a Red, White & You Community Blood Drive July 1-3 at the Sedgwick County Zoo.
Those who donate will receive a commemorative T-shirt, free admission to the zoo and $4 entry per person for the donor's immediate family members.
"Last year, the Red, White & You event raised 774 units of blood, and this year we hope to exceed this amount," said Terri Dunaway, interim CEO for the Central Plains Region.
Hours for the blood drive will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, in the zoo's Cargill Learning Center. For more information, call 316-268-0835 or go to www.redcrossblood.org.
Workouts will help with brain function
"Tune Up Your Brain" is the title of a free, movement-based program to improve brain functioning that will be presented at 10 a.m. Friday at Larksfield Place auditorium, at 7373 E. 29th St. North.
Though the program is free, reservations are requested; call 316-858-3910.
The program is a series of simple physical movements that make the brain work more efficiently and effectively. The movements take only minutes to do.
Health Department clinic hours changed
The Sedgwick County Health Department's West Central clinic hours have changed. The clinic at 2716 W. Central offers immunizations, family planning, prenatal care, health screenings and other health services.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; noon to 6:30 p.m. Thursday; and 8 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
The clinic also is offering free chicken pox vaccine to those ages 10 to 18. Two doses of the vaccine are recommended, and the free vaccine will be available until supplies are exhausted.
Botanica to offer summer fitness class
Botanica will offer a fitness class in the gardens beginning June 24 and running through Aug. 12.
Instructor Renaire Palmer, of Fundamental Fitness, will lead the class, which will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays. The session is designed for all levels and will include stretching, strength training, cardio and more.
Cost is $95, $85 for Botanica members. Preregistration and prepayment are required. Call 316-264-0448 to register.
