Cherry blossoms bloom on stamps

Two new Forever stamps celebrate the centennial of the gift of more than 3,000 cherry trees from the city of Tokyo to the United States. The first-class 45-cent Forever stamps are festooned with the art of cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. The planting of the trees has blossomed into the National Cherry Blossom Festival, going on now in the nation’s capital.

Clutter cutter: hall closet

Here’s how Nikki Havens of Seriously Organized in Bloomington, Minn., recommends cutting clutter at the entry hall closet:

•  Pull out coats you don’t wear or that are out of season.

•  Use the floor for frequently worn shoes, and add two shelves directly above them. Buy two color-coded bins for each family member – including the dog – and label them with names. Place the first set of bins on the bottom shelf for seasonal items such as hats and gloves in the winter and goggles in the summer. If you don’t use it a couple of times a week, it shouldn’t be there.

Use the second shelf of bins for a “clutter control center.” From hair bands to finger-painting masterpieces, these tubs are the place to throw odds and ends as you come in the door.

•  Remove the hanging bar and install hooks in a diamond-shaped pattern for coats and bags. Kids can take the lower hooks while adults claim the top ones.
