"These earmuffs have been popular and they're $19.99," Smith said. "And you can't have enough warm socks. And gloves, anything for cold weather."
Sporting goods stores carry a huge variety of gifts for men, women and children. And it doesn't matter if the recipient isn't the outdoor type.
At White House Black Market in Bradley Fair shopping center, store manager Brandi Beckstein says accessories make great gifts, including clip-on pins featuring flowers or feathers.

"You can put them on your clothes, in your hair, on your belt, wherever. And they're only $25," she said.
If you do buy jewelry, it's fun to present it in a jewelry box or a travel case for jewelry.
At Ann Taylor, sales associate Terry Trout says purse spray fragrances in a sleek silver tube make a great gift or stocking stuffer for $10.
Johanna Figueroa, manager of Bath and Body Works, also in Bradley Fair, says you can't miss with gift sets. Many are $20 and under.
"People like these because they come in a nice basket that can be used for a lot of things later," she said.
Coldwater Creek has pleated mufflers, Ann Taylor has ruffled ones, Eccentricity has a variety of styles and colors. Mufflers and scarves are an accessory that can be found at a price to fit anyone's budget.
Stackable rings and bracelets have been a hit at Frou Frou. Rings are a hit also at the Pink Saloon, at Oliver and Douglas, but the sparkly card wallets are, too, said owner Brooke Greene.
"These are great, they're $15, and you can put everything you need in your pocket or a small purse," she said.
A small, clutch-style purse with a wrist band by Lucky Brand is a hot item at Aspen Boutique, located in the same center as the Pink Saloon.
"There's a lot of detail on them," said co-owner Monica Smits. "Lucky Brand is popular and the price is $29, so they're a great item and selling well."
Also popular at Aspen Boutique have been fancy hair ornaments, novel business card cases and Tokyo Milk fragrances,priced at $29 for a small bottle.
