A new tapas, wine and cigar bar is taking over the former Gianni Bacci's space in Old Town.

There’s a new tenant coming to the old Gianni Bacci’s space at 301 N. Washington in Old Town.

Alfred Abdelmaseh, who also owns Shesha Bar & Lounge at 2106 N. Amidon, hopes to have his new tapas, wine and cigar lounge open in the space in June. He plans to call it Fredo’s, a nickname he had when he was younger.

Abdelmaseh said his menu will focus on tapas, or small plates, that feature Mediterranean, Spanish and Asian flavors. He’ll serve one “chef’s special” main course each week and will be open for both lunch and dinner.

He also plans to have wine tastings twice a month, offer a late-night cocktail menu and serve a brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.

“No one is doing anything like that in Old Town,” he said.

For now, Abdelmaseh is working on the building, which he plans to repaint a lighter shade of gray. Eventually, he also wants to install garage doors that open onto the patio.

Abdelmaseh is the son of Latif Abdelmaseh, who was Antoine Toubia’s first chef when he opened Olive Tree in Wichita. The family later opened Abram’s Cafe.

“We’ve been in business in Wichita for a long time,” he said.

Gianni Bacci’s has been closed since the fall, when owner Steven Bacci decided he wanted to spend more time with his family. He first opened the bar with chef Jason Febres in 2015.
