Kansas State-Iowa State basketball preview

• WHEN/ WHERE: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa

• TV/RADI O: KMCI (Ch. 38); WHB (810 AM)

• ABOUT KANSAS STATE (14-5, 4-2 Big 12) : The Wildcats are going from one difficult road venue to another. After falling on a buzzer-beater on Tuesday at Texas, K-State must bounce back at Hilton Coliseum, where it has lost two straight. Marcus Foster is coming off one of his worst games. He scored eight points and missed nine shots at Texas. Thomas Gipson is coming off one of his best games, a 24-point effort at Texas. His challenge against Iowa State will be defending Georges Niang. Will Spradling has averaged 11.6 points in three trips to Ames. A win at Iowa State would carry extra meaning, because the Cyclones have a top 25 RPI.

• ABOUT IOWA STATE (14-3, 2-3 Big 12): The Cyclones looked like the Big 12’s best team at 14-0, but they are below .500 in conference play after three consecutive losses. The defeats have come at Oklahoma and Texas and against Kansas in Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State has been off all week, and it used that extra time to scout K-State and prepare for this game. The Cyclones are one of the highest scoring teams in the nation. They average 85.1 points, and four of their starters average more than 12 points. Melvin Ejim has been the top perfomer, but many consider DeAndre Kane to be the team’s best player. Iowa State is tough to beat at home. It owns victories over Iowa, Michigan and Baylor in Hilton Coliseum.

• BOTTOM LINE: Winning at Hilton Coliseum is hard enough. Iowa State’s three-game losing streak will make the task even harder. K-State will need a strong effort to win this game.
