Key play: TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin scampered in for a 10-yard touchdown, giving the Horned Frogs a 7-3 lead with 6:50 left in the quarter.
Key stat: KU gained just 19 yards in 17 plays.
Key play: KU cornerback JaCorey Shepherd picked off Boykin and returned it 32 yards for at touchdown. The score helped KU pull even at 10-10 with 8:55 left in the first half.
Key stat: Jake Heaps’ 50-yard pass to Andrew Turzilli accounted for exactly half of KU’s total yardage.
Key play: Just 13 seconds into the half, Boykin found receiver David Porter for a 75-yard touchdown pass. It was poor tackling from Kansas. And it was back-breaking.
Key stat: KU managed just seven points off two TCU turnovers in the quarter.
Key play: TCU running back B.J. Catalon pushed the Frogs’ lead to 14 with a 2-yard touchdown run.
Key stat: KU has averaged 19.0 points in its last six Big 12 losses.
Player of the game: TCU linebacker Paul Dawson, who was making his first career start, finished with a game-high 17 tackles.
Reason to hope: KU’s secondary, including cornerbacks JaCorey Shepherd and Dexter McDonald, continues to be the Jayhawks’ best position group.
Reason to mope: KU couldn’t topple a TCU team that tried to give the game away. And the next two weeks feature home games against Oklahoma and Baylor.
Looking ahead: KU returns home to face Oklahoma, which lost to Texas at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday.

|D||Offense||The KU offense has a minor identity problem. The offensive line can’t protect quarterback Jake Heaps, but KU can’t afford to be too one-dimensional in the Big 12. What does Weis try next?|
|C+||Defense||The unit set up KU’s first two scores, and this grade would be higher if not for a disastrous breakdown to start the second half. Two missed tackles resulted in a 75-yard touchdown pass for TCU.|
|B||Special teams||Trevor Pardula averaged 46.2 yards on 10 punts — a solid average. Kicker Matthew Wyman made one field goal and nearly converted another from 51 yards. A couple of breakdowns in the return game hurt.|
|D||Coaching||Charlie Weis had the right idea to play conservatively against TCU. But overall, the offensive struggles are still a major concern. When will KU score 20 points again?|
