MESSY FOOD WEEK: SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS

The messier the meal, the better it tastes. This week, we'll offer recipes that make a mess no matter how dainty the diner. Today's is for spaghetti and meatballs and comes from the blog No Recipes.

INGREDIENTS

For meatballs:

1/2 medium onion, minced

2 medium cloves of garlic, minced

1/2 cup peeled, seeded and minced tomatoes

12 oz. ground beef

6 oz. ground pork

4 oz. ricotta cheese

1 egg

1/3 cup unseasoned bread crumbs

1 ounce Parmesan cheese, grated

3 sprigs fresh thyme, chopped

1 tablespoon chopped parsley

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For sauce:

3 cloves of garlic minced

1 large onion minced

4 cups peeled, seeded and chopped tomatoes (about 6 large tomatoes)

1 bay leaf

1 teaspoon salt

Parsley, minced for garnish

1 lb. spaghetti
