Girls on the Run offers training seasons in the fall and spring. Spring registration is available starting Jan. 1 at girlsontherunks.org or by calling Christy Thomas, council director of Girls on the Run Sedgwick County, at 316-461-4516. Applications can be downloaded from the website in early December.
Girls on the Run will accept 60 girls in third through eighth grades to participate at four sites during the spring. Fifteen girls will be accepted per site on a first-come, first-served basis. Spring sites include Maize Recreation Center, Lincoln Elementary School in Wichita and the North Branch YMCA. A fourth site will be announced later.
Meetings start on Feb. 20. The spring class will end May 12 with a women's-only 5K race to celebrate Mother's Day.
Sessions cost $75 per girl. Full and partial scholarships are available to those who qualify.

The group is also looking for women of all fitness levels to serve as head coaches for upcoming sessions, and men and women to volunteer as assistant coaches, grant writers, fundraisers, or to sit on the group's board of directors. Head coaches must be at least 18. Parental supervision is required for volunteers younger than 16.
