Last weekend’s Wichita Wagonmasters Downtown Chili Cookoff attracted about 7,500 chili fans. The competition was tight, but judges chose a long list of winners, some of which are now qualified to compete in this weekend’s World’s Champion Chili Cookoff in New Hampshire. Among them are Judie Ellis, who won the International Chili Society Red Chili category, and her daughter, Julie Brown, who had already qualified in the chili verde and salsa divisions in other cookoffs she’s entered. Also placing in the event: The Anchor, which earned second place in the People’s Choice category. For a full list of winners, visit blogs.kansas.com/dining and search for chili.
