1. Rock Island BBQ opens Thursday in a space behind Emerson Biggin’s at 150 N. Rock Island. For now, hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

2. When Pigs Fly: Father and son Ronnie and Brian Choy will open their new barbecue restaurant, When Pigs Fly, next month at 7011 W. Central in the Crossroads shopping center.

3. Flying Donuts: Tricia Davis is planning a new doughnut shop called Flying Donuts, which she hopes to open in November next to Bella Luna at 4618 E. Central.
