Macey Hensley has wowed television audiences on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” before with her knowledge of presidential trivia, but her latest appearance marked a first for the 6-year-old from Council Grove – she actually met one of the presidents she has memorized so much about.
In a segment scheduled to air on Friday’s show, Ellen DeGeneres interviewed President Obama.
“We have a little presidential expert and she has never met a president before,” DeGeneres said to Obama. “Her name is Macey Hensley and I’d like you to meet her.”
“I want to meet her,” the president said.
A smiling Macey came out from backstage to give hugs first to Obama and then to DeGeneres.
After the initial excitement died down, DeGeneres asked Macey to tell them something about Roosevelt.
“Which one?” the 6-year-old asked.
After giving a bit of Theodore Roosevelt trivia, Macey had a chance to ask Obama some questions.
“Is there really a Book of Secrets?” she asked, possibly referring to the plot of the Nicolas Cage sequel to “National Treasure.”
“That’s a secret,” the president said, playing along.
Macey asked Obama if the first family’s dogs needed Secret Service protection.
“Bo and Sunny – they’re on their own,” Obama said. “But usually we don’t let them out of the White House unless they’re with us. So, you know, they’re protected.”
That led to a question about whether the dogs were still using the bowls the show had given the president.
After her questions were over, Macey received a presidential seal from Obama to wrap up the show.
“You’re so smart!” Obama said of the Kansas girl.
Actor Kevin Spacey found that out when Macey beat the fictional president from “House of Cards” in a trivia contest last April.
