Los Compadres Mexican Grill, a new Mexican restaurant in west Wichita, will open at 11 a.m. on Friday – and I have the menu.
The restaurant, which is taking over the space at 3302 W. Central formerly occupied by Jr’s Tex-Mex Grill and El Tenampa before that, is owned by Carlos Renteria and Jaime Martinez, who are both first-time restauranteurs.
The menu is different from a standard Tex-Mex place. It lists tacos, tortas, burritos and other basics but also has a few items I’m excited about. One of them is the sopa Azteca, a soup I fell in love with while vacationing in Cancun. It features a tomato-based broth with tortilla chips, shredded chicken, avocado, queso Ranchero and Mexican sour cream as a topping.
Some of the interesting entree selections include arrachera a la parilla, which is a seasoned beef sirloin, and tosatda de ceviche, which are crispy tostada shells topped with a citrus-y seafood salad. On Saturdays and Sundays, the restaurant will serve menduo and pozole, a Mexican stew. You can see a full menu attached.
The small dining room seats about 45. Los Compadres will have table side service and will serve alcohol.
The restaurant will stay open until 3 a.m. for hungry after-hours crowds on Fridays and Saturdays, but it will serve tacos only after 9 p.m.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
