Editor's note: An earlier version of this story contained an incorrect address for Mr. Bud's Brothers.

He’s cooked at Mr. Goodcents, Cheddar’s, The Green Mill, Tallgrass Country Club, Port of Wichita and the Lakeside Club.

But now, Trinity Lara is ready to cook for himself.

The longtime Wichita cook is about to open a restaurant with his brother, Jeremy Lyda, in a former Peter Pan Ice Cream store at 3404 N. Arkansas. More recently, the spot was the longtime home of Mr. Bud’s Carry Out. Lara decided to keep the essence of the name – and the existing sign – and will call the business Mr. Bud’s Brothers. He’ll serve burgers and sandwiches and, once he secures an ice cream vendor, shakes and ice cream.

“They had good business,” Lara said of his predecessor. “They had it for 30 some years. We’re trying to revive it.”

Mr. Bud’s Brothers will have room for about 40 people to eat inside. It’ll also offer carryout.

Lara hopes to open sometime this month and have a grand opening in July, he said. Stay tuned.
