Three restaurants on Douglas that are almost ready to go

Hungry Wichitans are being teased as they drive down Douglas these days and are confronted by three new signs making it look like three new restaurants are ready to go.

They almost are. But not quite yet.

Probably the closest is Dempsey’s Burger Pub at 3700 E. Douglas in Clifton Square. Steven Gaudreau had initially hoped to have his restaurant opened in October but wasn’t able to make it. The restaurant is about to start training staff, though, and should be ready to open in a week or two. The restaurant, which also has a location in Lawrence, serves burgers made with hormone-free beef and also offers Kobe burgers plus salads, wings, sweet potato fries, truffle fries and more. The new downtown Jimmy’s Egg also is getting closer to finished, and its tentative opening date is Dec. 1. It will be owned by local Jimmy’s Egg franchisee Wink Hartman Sr. and is in Sunburst Plaza at 1725 E. Douglas -- the same strip center that houses Tanya’s Soup Kitchen. If you drive by now, you’ll notice the sign is up and construction workers are busy hammering away.

Finally, District Taqueria at 917 E. Douglas is a little behind schedule. The restaurant has a new sign on the building and its hours posted on the door, but Michael Farha says he’s still finishing up the interior and is hoping for a mid-December opening. Once open, it’ll serve tacos from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It’ll stay open for drinks until midnight Mondays through Wednesdays and until 2 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
