The Kansas State Fair is still a few months away, but you don’t have to wait until then to get some super-bizarre food. Local hamburger chain Spangles plans to start serving some right here in Wichita.

On Friday, it will introduce its new peanut butter and jelly steak burger with bacon and jalapenos. It will be served on a sourdough bun and will feature a 1/3 pound steak burger patty topped with crunchy peanut butter, grape jelly, bacon and jalapenos. It will be available for a limited time.

This is not Spangles’ first go at “stunt food,” as I like to call it. Last year, they introduced The Beast, a 3,000-calorie burger topped with six 1/3-pound steak burger patties layered with 12 slices of American cheese and topped with mustard, ketchup, onion and pickle.

Spangles marketing director Stephanie Huckins said she’s tried the burger, and it’s a surprisingly good sweet/salty/spicy combination.

“I thought it sounded a little weird at first,” she said. “But as soon as I had one bite, I had to eat the rest.”

The burger will be $5.49 by itself or $7.45 with fries and drink.
