Georges takes over doughnut shop space next door, owners contemplating another business

A few observant restaurant fans have noticed lately that Georges French Bistro at 4618 E. Central in College Hill appears to have spread out.

Their eyes are not deceiving them, says Desiree Youssef, wife of owner George Youssef. In April, when the restaurant was shut down amid coronvirus concerns, Youssef took over the space directly to its east that was vacated by College Hill Donuts earlier this year.

There’s nothing exciting to announce at the moment, Desiree said. The space was available and George needed to spread out his kitchen, so they took it.

But there’s a post-coronavirus possibility for the spot that’s percolating in their brains.

The couple has been talking about opening a tapas and wine bar for years but they could never find the right space, Desiree said. The front part of the doughnut shop space could work for that business, she said, and it would be an extension of Georges French Bistro.

With all that’s happened with coronavirus, they’re not sure if or when they could proceed, she said.

But it’s a possibility.

“Withe the pandemic, it will likely take some time,” she said.

In the meantime, Desiree said, they removed the separating wall in the back part of the space and are extending the kitchen to make room for executing caterings and making desserts.

Georges closed on March 17 because of the coronavirus pandemic but reopened for carryout last week.

I’ll let you know when the Youssefs make a decision on the future of the addition.
