Everything is back to normal after a break-in at College Hill Deli & Catering, the restaurant at 3407 E. Douglas.

On Thursday morning, owner Ali Yassine arrived early to work on a breakfast order and found the glass to his front door kicked in. Glass was shattered everywhere.

The thieves got away with about $400 in cash and an old laptop computer Yassine described as “useless.” It took the staff a while to get the glass cleaned up, but Ali was able to open as usual and replace the glass on Thursday. He plans to install a more sophisticated security system that will unleash a loud alarm and flashing lights if someone tries to break in.

It had been a long time since I’d dined at the restaurant, but on Tuesday, I stopped in to get lunch to-go after interviewing Schane Gross next door for my story on Fork & Fennel. Yassine suggested I try his chicken shawarma with a side of fattouch, and I’m glad I did. The sandwich was warm, and the chicken inside had a nice grilled flavor. The fattouch was great too.
