When one of your favorite restaurants has dinner-only hours, it's kind of sad.
But when that dinner-only restaurant comes to its senses and adds lunchtime hours, it's time to celebrate. And eat pizza.
On Friday, one of my favorite local pizza restaurants — Piatto Neapolitan Pizzeria — is adding weekday lunch hours. It's at 1706 E. Douglas, in the Douglas Design District, so this is a particularly tasty development for me and for other people who work nearby.
Owner Robert McMullin, who opened his restaurant in November 2016, had flirted with adding lunch for a brief period last spring, opening for lunch on Fridays and Saturdays only.

But now, McMullin said, he's ready to commit to the lunch hour. He's hired extra staff and is hoping to draw lunch crowds from nearby businesses.
The lunch menu will be slimmed down to the restaurant's top selling pizzas, and it'll also include a few new salads. McMullin said the restaurant also will offer a Tuesday through Friday lunch special that features one 12-inch margherita pizza, one side salad and one ice tea for $11.99.
The new hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays and Tuesdays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Piatto is closed on Mondays.
