That neon-yellow restaurant on Rock Road is about to open, is giving away free food

Perhaps you’ve noticed that impossible-not-to-notice restaurant that’s gone up on Rock Road during the last several months.

Its bright yellow paint job, reminiscent of a college highlighter or a banana snow cone, is an eye-catcher for sure. And when it opens next month, Wichita will know if the food will be as hard to forget.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, which is taking over the old Pho Hot Bistro space at 306 N. Rock Road, has chosen an opening date, and it’s March 12, exactly two weeks from today.

On that day, the first 50 people through the door will get coupons good for a free meal every week for a year. After that, the next 150 will get Fuzzy’s T-shirts, decorated with the Wichita flag. Much like Chick-fil-A, Fuzzy’s openings often inspire campouts, said spokeswoman Chelsea Nobert.

Fuzzy’s is part of a chain that has about 115 restaurants across the country. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a full bar. The menu, which you can see here, specializes in tacos made with fillings like shredded brisket, ground beef, grilled fish and tempura shrimp. It also has soups, salads, burritos, burrito bowls and quesadillas.

The breakfast menu offers burritos and tacos filled with items like eggs, potato, bacon and chorizo as well as huevos rancheros and chilaquiles.

Customers order at the counter, and their names are called when their order is ready. The staff gets silly when calling out names, Nobert said, often making up goofy variations. (Mike, for example, could become Magic Mike before he gets his burrito.)

Nobert said customers will be wowed by the interior, which is as colorful as the exterior.

“It’s just as bright and noticeable on the inside. That’s just us. We’re colorful. We’re happy. Every room, every wall is a different color or two different colors.”

The restaurant will also do caterings and will have a big banquet room in the back.

Its hours will be 7 a.m. to midnight Sundays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
