Flowers are nice. Jewelry is good.
But if you really want to show mom you love her on Mother’s Day, you’ll feed her a mega-brunch.
As usual, a long list of Wichita restaurants are offering ramped-up brunch buffets on Mother’s Day, which is May 10. Many include breakfast items, prime rib carving stations and dessert for miles.
One of the newcomers to the scene is Cafe 402, an eatery inside the downtown YMCA at 402 N. Market. Owner Jason Fisher, who got his start with the Latour restaurant chain, has recently started serving Sunday brunch, putting out a table filled with a long line of both decadent and healthier entrees and spreading tables out into the gym’s large, sunny atrium. The restaurant is open to anyone, not just YMCA members.

Fisher’s Mother’s Day buffet will have items including sweet potato hash with sausage and eggs, braised kale and mushrooms, hickory smoked apple bacon, coconut lime smoked salmon, a waffle bar and more.
People often react with surprise to see such a lavish spread in such an unexpected place, Fisher said.
“They’re absolutely blown away when they see it,” he said. “They are flabbergasted.”
