Neapolitan pizzeria to open soon
It’s already been a year since Piatto Neapolitan Pizzeria opened in Wichita and gave local diners their first bites of pillowy, simple Naples-style pizza pies.
Next week, owner Robert McMullin will celebrate the anniversary of his restaurant at 1706 E. Douglas with a big pizza giveaway.
Anyone who texts the word “margherita” to 797979 will be eligible for a free margherita pizza, which is topped with fresh mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and basil. The deal is good on Nov. 9 only and only for people who are dining in the restaurant or next door at Hopping Gnome.
Piatto specializes in the type of pizza McMullin fell in love with while visiting Naples, Italy. Before opening his restaurant, he actually went to Naples to learn first-hand from a real “pizzaiolo,” or pizza maker. His dough is pillowy and his toppings are simple yet gourmet. Earlier this year, I gave Piatto my first four-star review in years.
Also, Piatto has recently changed its hours. McMullin has decided to eliminate lunch, which he was doing two days a week. But he’s now opening seven nights a week. Hours are now 5 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5 to 10 p.m. Fridays.
McMullin also wants to give his diners a friendly birthday parking reminder. Road construction in front of Piatto on Douglas has been a mess for several weeks. But now that he’s added a patio and a back-door entrance, people can park in a large lot behind the restaurant, just off of Hydraulic, and walk right in the back. I’ve attached a handy map for your perusal.
