It hasn’t been a good summer for the Subway restaurant at 530 S. West St.

Not only had the restaurant, which sat on the east side of West Street near Kellogg, been rendered nearly unreachable by West Street construction, but it also was robbed at gunpoint for the second time in a little more than a year.

Now, the restaurant is closed. The sign is gone, the interior is gutted and there’s hardly any evidence that a Subway ever operated there. A manager at a nearby Subway said the restaurant was closed on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, on Aug. 10, the restaurant was robbed at gunpoint at 7:45 p.m. on a Thursday. It also was robbed at gunpoint in June of 2016. No one was injured in either incident, and the police eventually made an arrest in the 2016 robbery.

Those needing a Subway fix in the area can find the next closest restaurants at 4110 W. Central and 1016 W. Douglas.
