Wichita has another new coffee shop.
Fairmount Coffee Co., which sits just on the edge of the Wichita State University campus at 3815 E. 17th St., quietly opened late last week and is perfecting its craft before the fall semester starts.
The shop is set up inside the WSU Lutheran Student Center, and its aim is to give college students a place to hang out, study and relax. It’s a 2,000-square-foot space that includes meeting rooms, comfortable seating and a hangout vibe. And it serves coffee roasted by Reverie Coffee Roasters
Fairmount Coffee Co. is being operated using a similar model as Mead’s Corner, which First United Methodist Church opened in 2008 at 420 E. Douglas. It’s a non-profit whose main goal is to break even. Any extra money will go toward its mission.

The founders, including Paige Edgington, the director of campus outreach for the Lutheran Student Center, say they don’t want to hide their religious affiliation, but they won’t be overt about it either. Anyone, religious or non-religious, will feel comfortable there, Edgington said.
The shop’s hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 7 a.m. to midnight Fridays and 8 a.m. to midnight Saturdays. It’s closed on Sundays.
