A new Mexican restaurant will open on April 4 in the space at 3302 W. Central that was vacated by El Tenampa in July.

Jr’s Tex-Mex Grill will be a build-your-own burrito place in the vein of Chipotle, said its owner, Javier Alonzo. It will allow customers to choose meats like barbacoa and carne asada, plus other fillings, all of which will be on display. It will have other menu itmes, too, including 49-cent tacos and burgers.

Alonzo used to own a taco truck called El Rio Bravo that operated in the early 2000s in the parking lot of the Basham’s Rent To Own store near 21st St. N. and Market. He also now owns a clothing store at 1520 W. 21st St. N. called Ayani’s Closet.

I’ll keep you updated on the opening.
