October is a busy month for food truck rallies, possibly because Halloween is coming and possibly because the cooler air keeps the truckers from roasting inside their tiny kitchens on wheels.

At least five big food truck events will happen between now and the end of the month, including my personal favorite – the Wichita Eagle’s third annual Haunted Food Truck event, which is on the calendar for the evening of Oct. 28.

You’ll want to make sure to attend at least one of these rallies. After October, rally season is over and the trucks won’t be gathering in large numbers until next spring.

A Night at the Fountains, 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, WaterWalk, 515 S. Main: This is the final installment of the year in the Night at the Fountains monthly food truck rally, which is organized by Funky Monkey Munchies. It’ll feature a long list of trucks, including Big Chill, The Flying Stove, Garden of Eatin’, Kind Cravings, The Kamayan Truck, Let’m Eat Brats, Lolo’s Crepes, Singbird Juice Company, Sweet Willie’s BBQ and Uno Mas. The band Toto Kaos will perform.

Street Food night at WSU, 6-9 p.m. Oct. 21, Wichita State University Food Truck Plaza: The owners of LoLo’s Crepes are putting on this food truck party, which will include LoLo’s, Kamayan Truck, The Big Apple and more. It also will have music, dancing, games and a drink cart.

Truck or Treat, 5-8 p.m. Oct. 22, Wichita WaterWalk, 515 S. Main: The food truckers are inviting attendees to give their costumes a test run and trick or treat for candy from truck to truck. Organizers will be collecting new or gently used gym shoes for kids at the event. Among the trucks signed up are The Brown Box, The Kamayan Truck, Funky Monkey Munchies, Lynn’s Cubside Cookout, The Flying Stove, Brickhouse BBQ, Lolo’s Crepes and Garden of Eatin’.

Wichita Eagle Haunted Food Trucks, 5-8 p.m. Oct. 28, Wichita Eagle parking lot, along Rock Island just south of Douglas: Visitors are encouraged to wear their costumes to this food truck rally, which also will feature trick or treating. Trucks on-site will include The Flying Stove, B.S. Sandwich Press, Big Chill, Funky Monkey Munchies, Let’m Eat Brats, The Garden of Eatin’, The Brown Box Bakery, Lolo’s Crepes, Noble House, Kona Ice, Sunflower Espresso and The Big Apple.

Food Trucks at the Fountain, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 30, Wichita WaterWalk, 515 S. Main: The original Wichita food truck rally, organized by The Flying Stove, which always happens on the afternoon of the last Sunday of the month, has its last meet up of the year on the calendar. This one also encourages costumes and also will have trick or treating. Watch Facebook for an event page, which should be up soon.
