Los Compadres: Barbacoa specialists

Cinthia Colchado, owner of Los Compadres Mexican Restaurant and Grill.When a reader alerts me to a good Mexican food find, I pay attention. Mainly because I’m still searching for something to fill the vast emptiness left by Frida’s.

Last week, I received an e-mail from a reader named Phil Warren, extolling the fabulousness of Los Compadres Mexican Restaurant and Grill, which opened at the end of March at 3205 E. 31st St. S.

The restaurant, owned by Cinthia Colchado and some partners, is becoming known for its barbacoa — Mexican shredded beef — which is one of my favorite things ever.

It also serves fajitas, burritos, tortas, tacos and several fish and shrimp dishes. There are even two pasta dishes on the menu.

Phil said he liked the restaurant because it had some traditional dishes he hadn’t yet had a chance to try in Wichita. He wrote his own review of Los Compadres on his fascinating “Chain Free Eating” blog, found here.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 316-440-8932.
