Lent starts on Wednesday, which always gives me an excuse to talk about fish. In my younger, better metabolism days, it also gave me an excuse to eat fish and chips at Long John Silver’s. But I’ve had to move on from that destructively delicious habit.
I’m putting together a list of Lent-friendly specials and dining spots if you have any to suggest. In the mean time, you might be interested in signing up for a Lenten cooking demonstration being put on March 13.
Newport Grill's chef Jake Lippincott will lead the demonstration as a fundraiser for the Treehouse, a nonprofit organization serving Wichita women and babies.
The demo will be at Cooking at Bonnie's Place, 9747 E. 21st St. North. It's $75 a person and will include a seafood meal, beverages, recipes and a silent auction. Sessions are available from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. or from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Make reservations online by Tuesday at www.wichitatreehouse.com or by calling 316-686-2600.
