A look at the D.K. Kitchen menu

Chef Douglas "DJ" Pitts' recently opened restaurant at 217 E. Douglas (316-264-9991) has just added Saturday lunch hours, meaning it's open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Among the dishes on the small but tempting menu:

1. Salads: The gourmet salad offerings include an arugula salad with orange, olives, toasted pine nuts and a goat cheese vinaigrette. (Another is served with green goddess dressing.) Diners can opt to add chicken, shrimp or salmon for an extra charge. Salads cost $7 to $12.

2. Sandwiches: Among the options: a fancy patty melt that's made with Kobe beef and topped with braised onions, Irish cheddar and served on brioche. Also available: a curry chicken club, an ahi tuna sandwich and a pulled pork topped with Swiss, pickled jalapeno, mustard and mayo. Sandwiches cost $6 to $9.

3. Entrees: For non-sandwich/salad eaters, Pitts offers fettuccine with roasted mushrooms, arugula and walnuts; a fried chicken breast with sweet potato salad and honey mustard; teriyaki salmon with carrots and cashews; and an omelet served with fries. Entrees are $7 to $13.

A GOOD DEAL

Jose Pepper's, the Mexican restaurant at 11423 E. 13th St., serves free cheese dip all day on Mondays and Tuesdays. The offer is good only for dine-in customers, who can choose between three flavors — espinaca con queso, chili con queso or queso rizo.

Exotic meat night

Gobi Grille, the Mongolian grill restaurant at 2319 N. Ridge Road, will introduce "Exotic Meat Nights" on Monday and continue them on coming Mondays and Wednesdays. On each exotic meat night, a different unusual protein will be added to the raw buffet, including venison, alligator, elk, ostrich, lamb and more. There will be one exotic meat per night, and a calendar of what will be offered when will be posted by Friday at www.gobigrille.com. For more information, call 316-425-7999.

Riverside bierocks

The people behind Kechi Bierocks —a bierocks restaurant that's operated for more than a year at 61st and Woodlawn in Kechi _ recently opened a second location across from the Riverside Perk in Wichita. Bierocks Restaurant is at 828 W. 11th St. and serves several types of bierocks, including original, original with cheese, ham and cheese and beef and double cheese with bacon, as well as hot dogs, brats and sides such as baked beans and potato salad. The tiny new restaurant is carryout only and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 316-806-9442.

Late-night eats

Lilli Mae's, the breakfast and lunch restaurant at 206 E. Kellogg, is trying to capture hungry post-clubbing crowds from Old Town by opening overnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The new hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and now 4 p.m. all night until 7 a.m. the next morning on Fridays and Saturdays. Lilli Mae's serves breakfast and diner food.
