A peek at the D'Sozo menu

The vegan restaurant recently opened at 1812 S. Seneca (316-295-4498) and is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays through Fridays. Among the items on the menu:

1. Sandwiches and wraps: The menu features several veggie sandwich creations, including veggie burgers, a turkey club made with soy turkey and a Caribbean sweet avocado sandwich, made with avocado, cucumber, tomato, black olives, alfalfa sprouts and cucumber dressing on a homemade bun. Wraps include a refried bean wrap, a tomato basil wrap and a spinach hummus wrap. Average price — $7.50.

2. Crepes: The restaurant offers savory crepes filled with ingredients such as portobello mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, asparagus, roasted eggplant and a variety of soy cheeses. It also serves dessert crepes filled with everything from caramel orange sauce to sliced peaches to soy vanilla ice cream. Crepes range from $3.99 to $7.50.

3. Smoothies: Diners can choose from a long list of fruity smoothies or from a more adventuresome green smoothies list, featuring fruit mixed with ingredients such as spinach, kale and parsley. Smoothies range from $4.99 for a small to $8.95 for a large.


DJ returns with D.K.

Douglas "DJ" Pitts, the chef who owned the revered 626 Douglas and who headed the kitchen at the former Bella Donna, is back with a new restaurant —D.K. Kitchen at 217 E. Douglas. The just-opened restaurant, which is in the space formerly occupied by Stang, will be a casual eatery serving soups, salads and sandwiches. It's open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for now, but Pitts hopes to start offering wine dinners and eventually offer dinner hours. For more information, call 316-264-9991.

Also just opened

A couple of other local restaurants that have just opened in the past week or so — the new Le Monde Cafe in the former Nouvelle spot at 3101 N. Rock Road, plus Five Guys Burgers and Fries , Long John Silver's Freshside Grille and a fouth Cinnamon's Deli for Wichita all just opened at 2616 N. Maize Road.

West-side Genghis

The former Krispy Kreme building at 8512 W. Central will soon have a new tenant — a second Genghis Grill . (The first opened a year ago at 111 S. Rock Road.) It should open in the next four months. Genghis Grill is a Mongolian grill restaurant that allows diners to assemble their own stir-fry dishes from a bar of fresh, raw ingredients then watch as they're cooked on circular grills.
