JAPANESE EXPLOSION

Japanese cuisine is the latest fad to hit Wichita. Following are three more restaurants (in addition to Kanai and Wasabi, the two we told you about last week) that will be opening soon.

1. Tsu Basa: A new Japanese restaurant, specializing in sushi, sashimi and other traditional Japanese dishes, will open next month in the former Mr. Goodcents space in Eastgate Plaza at Kellogg and Rock. It'll be open for lunch and dinner daily.

2. Emperor's Japanese Grill: Emperor's, which opened a restaurant on the west side at 2250 N. Ridge Road five years ago, will open an east-side location on Jan. 22. It will be in Preston Village behind the former Saturn dealership at Central and Greenwich. It features Japanese hibachi dinners in a to-go atmosphere.

3. Yamasa Japanese Grill: Benny Liu of the Great Wall empire is opening a second Yamasa Japanese Grill, this one at 407 E. Pawnee. The original Yamasa is at 327 N. Hillside. Liu had hoped to open the new restaurant, specializing in sushi and hibachi-style dishes, today. (He's also planning another Great Wall at 21st and Amidon, and it should open early next week.)

A GOOD DEAL

Neighbors, the bar and grill at 2150 N. Amidon, offers its ribeyes, filets and sirloins for $8.45 from 4 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays. The steak comes with potato, vegetable and a salad. For more information, call 316-838-1338.

QUICK BITES

Second Le Monde

An east-side Le Monde Cafe will open soon in the spot at 3101 N. Rock Road that was until recently occupied by Nouvelle Cafe. The original Le Monde, which specializes in Mediterranean fare and deliciously crumbly sweet biscuits, opened at 602 N. West 15 years ago. The original Le Monde does not serve alcohol, but the new one will include a full bar. It should be open by mid-February and will serve lunch and dinner daily.

P.F. Chang's happy hour

P.F. Chang's, the popular restaurant that always has a wait at 1401 N. Waterfront Parkway, has just introduced a new happy hour menu, offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Sundays. It'll feature a variety of adult beverages and appetizers that cost $3, $4, $5 or $6. Examples include $3 spring rolls or import draft beers or $6 cosmopolitans or sheared ahi tuna. For more information, call 316-634-2211.

Knolla's at movie night

Knolla's Pizza is now being served by-the-slice during the Orpheum's film series. The historic downtown theater at 200 N. Broadway is showing one classic film a month, starting on Jan. 21 with a 7 p.m. showing of "The Wiz." For more information, call 316-263-0884.
