Four restaurants in Wichita's future

1. Five Guys Burgers and Fries: The greasy burger chain that Overland Parkers are going crazy for plans to open stores in Wichita starting early next year. The first of what could be many Five Guys will open near the Lowe's at 29th and Maize Road.

2. Jimmy's Egg: Partners Wink Hartman and Whitney VinZant plan to build Wichita's fifth Jimmy's Egg, a breakfast and lunch restaurant, at 47th and south Broadway.

3. Wasabi Japanese Restaurant, a new sushi bar, is set to open at 912 E. Douglas, probably after the first of the year.

4. Panda Express: The Chinese food chain is looking at several locations in Wichita, including on both the east and west sides and in Derby.

A GOOD DEAL

Granite City at 2244 N. Webb Road and 2661 N. Maize Road is now offering a "stadium menu" from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays featuring reduced-price, football-friendly fare, including a burger and fries for $5, pretzels with mustard for $3, and a dozen chicken wings for $4.50.

QUICK BITES

Gluten-free Tex-Mex

Carlos O' Kelly's, the Mexican restaurant with several Wichita locations, recently added several gluten-free items to its menu. (Gluten is a protein that exists in wheat that's indigestible for some people.) The new menu consists of items the restaurant already offered that were gluten-free and a few it created. Those interested in the menu, which features more than a dozen options, should ask for it when visiting the restaurant.

Solo's: A new diner

The Best Western Airport Inn & Conference Center at 6815 W. Kellogg has taken over the restaurant on the premises (formerly called First Flight) and turned it into a whole new concept — a diner called Solo's. The space still has an aviation theme but now specializes in breakfast, lunch, dinner and daily blue plate specials priced at $4.99. It's open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 316-942-5600.
