Three food-related events

1. Grilling class and tasting: The Seafood Shop at 6470 E. Central and YB Meats are putting on an outdoor grilling class and tasting, led by chef Adam Courtney. He'll demonstrate how to cook skirt steak, cedar plank salmon, whole fish and more. The class/tasting is at noon Saturday in the parking lot of Normandie Shopping Center, Central and Woodlawn. 2. Pancake fundraiser: Sumo Japanese Grill will be home Saturday to a pancake-feed fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It's from 8 a.m. to noon and will feature special guest chefs, raffles, prizes and a clown. Admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased at Sumo, 11233 E. 13th St., or by calling 316-993-7774.

2. Beer dinner: The Anchor at 1109 E. Douglas is having a beer and food tasting on Wednesday sponsored by beer importer Merchant du Vin. The dinner will feature samples of the beers as well as food made with them. It's $12.95 a person and starts at 7 p.m. Call The Anchor at 316-260-8989 for a reservation.

A GOOD DEAL

Mondays are kid nights at Shorty Small's, 12112 Maple. All day on Mondays, two kids can eat free with the purchase of one adult meal. The restaurant also offers $2.50 import bottles on Mondays. For more information, call 316-773-0900.

QUICK BITES

Closed on Mondays

Maharaja, the Indian restaurant at 1701 N. Broadway, is changing the day it closes to a more predictable day of the week. The restaurant had been closing on Tuesdays, but starting next week, it will close on Mondays instead. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Piccadilly news

Piccadilly Market and Grill at 7728 E. Central will offer a goat cheese sampling from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and also will be giving away two tickets for the movie "Julie & Julia," in honor of Julia Child's birthday.
