WSU choir concert is a salute to America

The Wichita State University Singers will present their annual summer choir performance —"An American Salute" — on Thursday.

The concert, which will be at 7:30 p.m. in Wiedemann Recital Hall, will feature patriotic music in honor of Kansas' 150th anniversary of statehood.

Selections will range from familiar stands such as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "God Bless America," to unique period pieces from the Civil War era.

Members of the WSU Brass Quintet and tenor Paul Smith will be guests during the concert and will present a special piece that features the rare Marcussen organ.

Admission is $7.

Each summer, WSU holds auditions for the choir, and the 80 chosen members represent high school and college students, area music teachers and retired musicians.
