Dancing With the Stars

A new round of Dancing With the Local Stars —a local takeoff on the hit ABC show "Dancing With the Stars" — starts today at Heroes, 117 N. Mosley.

The competition, sponsored by KEYN and in its seventh year, pairs local dance teachers from the studio Care to Dance with Wichita celebrities for a month-long elimination-style dancing competition.

The contest starts at 8 p.m. and runs every Friday through Feb. 28 at Heroes.

Celebrities featured in the competition include Emily Donahue from Omega Cheer, Denise Hnytka of KWCH, Channel 12, Unified Party Bus owner Ivan Moore, Derin Dopps of Dopps Chiropractic and The Wichita Eagle's Rod Pocowatchit.

The winner will choose a local charity to receive $1,000.

Comedian Kevin Hart

Fast-talking comedian and actor Kevin Hart, recognizable for his parts in films such as "Fool's Gold" and "The 40 Year Old Virgin," will perform his stand-up show tonight at The Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg. The show starts at 8 p.m., and doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $45 and can be reserved by calling 316-722-4201.

Shamrock shuffleboard

The Shamrock Lounge at 1724 W. Douglas is hoping to draw shuffleboard fans with a tournament from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. It's $5 a person to enter, and the bar will draw for partners for a single elimination tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place. For more information, call 316-267-3100.

Carol Horton memorial show

A musical memorial for Carol Horton is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at Pat N Bros, 1111 E. Lincoln. Horton, who was the wife of RKO Blues guitarist Mike Horton, battled cancer for two years and died two weeks ago. Carol was active in the local music scene. RKO Blues will play at the event, and other bands and musicians will perform as well. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call 316-250-1189.
