Screen Scene: ‘Jungle Book’ live version, ‘Barbershop’ sequel new in theaters

Best bets opening Friday

▪ “Barbershop: The Next Cut” – The crew at a local barber shop comes together to bring some much-needed change to their neighborhood in this sequel to 2002’s “Barbershop” and 2004’s “Barbershop 2: Back in Business.”

▪ “The Jungle Book” – Disney does a live-action version of its animated classic based on Rudyard Kipling’s stories about Mowgli, a man-cub raised in the jungle by a family of wolves.

Also opening Friday

“Criminal” – In a last-ditch effort to stop a diabolical plot, a dead CIA operative’s (Ryan Reynolds) memories, secrets and skills are implanted into a death-row inmate (Kevin Costner) in hopes he will complete the operative’s mission. Because he certainly has nothing else better to do.

Special screening

“The Second Cooler” – This documentary takes a look at who benefits from illegal immigration in America while bringing major systemic issues into focus. The film is free and will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at College Hill United Methodist Church, 2930 E. First St. It will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, the Rev. Ellin Jimmerson.
