Screen Scene for week of Sept. 15: Retro triple feature at the drive-in this weekend (+trailers)

Special screenings

▪  Family Show Triple-feature Terrorfest – The Starlite Drive-in at 3900 S. Hydraulic is having more retro-themed nights on Friday, Sept 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16, showing “Gremlins” (rated PG) at 8:05 p.m., “BeetleJuice” (PG) at 10:10 and “Mars Attacks!” (PG-13) at 11:45 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for kids ages 5 to 11. The box office opens at 6:45 p.m. both days. Presented by Wichita Big Screen, SignLab and the Starlite Drive-in.

▪  ”The Dark Crystal” – The Orpheum’s Film Series presents this 1982 fantasy that follows an elf-like creature as it embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of a magical crystal that will restore order to the world. Because it definitely needs restoring. Showing at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Orpheum, 200 N. Broadway. Tickets are $5, $5 for seniors, students and military.

Best bet in theaters

▪  “Mother!” – Adventurous director Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan,” “Noah”) returns to a horror-ish vibe with this tale of a couple (Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem) who must deal with murderous house guests (Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris).

▪  “American Assassin” – A black ops recruit (Dylan O’Brien) and a Cold War veteran (MIchael Keaton) are recruited by the deputy director of the CIA to stop a mystery operative hitting civilian and military targets.
