Best bets opening Friday, Nov. 4

▪ “Doctor Strange” – The Marvel Comics Universe heads into the realm of fantasy with the adventures of Stephen Vincent Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), a former neurosurgeon who gets drawn into the world of the mystic arts. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton also star.

▪ “Hacksaw Ridge” – Mel Gibson returns to the director’s chair for the first time since 2006’s “Apocalypto” with this said-to-be-graphically-gruesome look at war, following real-life World War II Army medic Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), who refuses to kill people and becomes the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Sam Worthington and Luke Bracey also star.

Also opening Friday

▪ “Trolls” – Strictly for the kiddie set comes this animated comedy starring the brightly hairy toys, as Poppy (voice of Anna Kendrick), the optimistic leader of the trolls, and Branch (Justin Timberlake), her polar opposite, embark on an adventure that takes them beyond the only world they’ve ever known.
