The Tallgrass Film Association is presenting " Dudegrass: A Lebowski Extravaganza" on Saturday at Northrock Lanes, 3232 N. Rock Road.
The event is a fundraiser for the association, which presents the annual Tallgrass Film Festival and special screenings throughout the year, including its Cinema Alfresco and Third Thursday series.
Saturday's festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a screening of the comedy "The Big Lebowski." Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, the film was released without a fuss in 1998, but later went on to be massive cult hit. The film stars Jeff Bridges as "The Dude," a slovenly stoner and boozer who is mistaken for a millionaire. He seeks the help of his bowling buddies, and together they get caught up in botched kidnapping and ransom schemes. John Goodman, Julianne Moore and Steve Buscemi also star.
Saturday's screening will take place in A.J.' s Sports Grill inside Northrock Lanes, which will offer specials on White Russians — the Dude's drink of choice. Food specials also will be featured.
After the screening, there will be unlimited bowling with trivia and costume contests held throughout the evening. Drawings for all-access passes to October's film festival also will be held. The event ends at 9 p.m.
"We wanted to have more than just a screening of this modern classic," said Nick Pope, Tallgrass' co-director of programming. "We wanted to have a screening event — this will be much more than just a night out at the movies."
"Dudegrass" is sponsored by Joma Bowling, Northrock Lanes, Hammer and Sickle Vodka, Tallgrass Brewing Co. and 107.3 The Brew. The film is rated R and the event is intended for mature audiences.
Tickets are $15 (which includes the film, bowling and shoe rental), available at the door or online at www.tallgrassfilmfest.com.
