‘So You Think You Can Dance’ winner will perform for hometown crowd

He thought he could dance. It turns out, he was right.

Du-Shaunt Stegall, who uses the stage name Fik-Shun, was named one of the two winners of the Fox Show “So You Think You Can Dance” during its finale on Sept. 10. Just a few weeks later, managers at Hartman Arena announced that the tour featuring the show’s top 10 dancers – including Stegall – was adding a stop in Wichita, meaning he’ll get to perform in front of a hometown crowd on Nov. 10.

Calling during a lunch break from rehearsals late last week, Stegall admitted he hadn’t even heard about the Wichita stop.

“That will be awesome,” said Stegall, whose prize was more than $100,000. “I wouldn’t mind that at all.”

Stegall said he grew up in Wichita and attended Mueller for elementary school and Jardine for middle school. He said that his grandparents, Issac and Mary Stegall, still live here.

When he was 12, his father moved his family to Las Vegas, where Stegall honed his dancing skills as a street performer. He won Season 10 by impressing the judges and audience with his expressive, precision dance skills, which moved seamlessly from hip-hop to ballroom.

And he’s never taken formal dance lessons.

Stegall said he enjoyed the show and can’t wait to get touring with the rest of the Top 10 from the season, a list that includes another Kansas native – Haley Erbert. Erbert lives in Kansas City, Mo., but was raised in Topeka and graduated from Washburn Rural High School.

Although she didn’t win the top female prize, she’ll be part of the tour, which will feature the dancers performing some of the crowd’s favorite routines from the season.

Originally, Wichita wasn’t on the list of cities where the tour would stop, but last week, it was added.

Tickets are $50 and $65. They’re available at the Hartman Arena Box Office, at or by calling 316-927-3999.
