Jester Awards honor high school musical productions

The Jester Awards, Friday at the Orpheum Theatre, honored high schools and their musical productions. The annual event is presented by Music Theatre of Wichita. Of the 27 shows reviewed from 25 high schools, 59 awards were given. The major awards are:

Overall Production:

Buhler High School’s “Big River” and Goddard High School’s “Fiddler on the Roof”



• 

Leading Actress:

Sophia Macias as Miss Adelaide in Bishop Carroll High School’s “Guys and Dolls,” Kiley Dinkel as Aida in Hays High School’s “Aida” and Lindsey Wells as Maria Rainer in Wichita Collegiate High School’s “The Sound of Music”



•  Leading Actor: Gavin Myers as Nathan Detroit in Bishop Carroll High School’s “Guys and Dolls,” Sam Massey as Huckleberry Finn in Buhler High School’s “Big River,” Chad Godson as Jim in Buhler High School’s “Big River,” Nathan Hilger as J. Pierrepont Finch in Russell High School’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and Carlton Ryker as El Gallo in Trinity Academy’s “The Fantasticks.”

In addition, Myers and Wells were selected to represent Music Theatre of Wichita at the National High School Music Theater Awards in New York City on June 25. Both also received $1,000 scholarships.
