Around the remote: TV picks for Aug. 28-Sept. 3

Don’t miss: MTV Video Music Awards – Adele, Drake, Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Britney Spears are all expected to be in the house for this year’s ceremony, which is being held at Madison Square Garden for the first time. But unless Kanye does something ridiculous again, the night’s real star figures to be Beyonce. Queen Bey leads everyone with 11 nominations, including video of the year for her bold and visually striking “Formation.” 8 p.m. Sunday, MTV

Other bets

Tuesday: It’s summer finale time for “Pretty Little Liars,” so expect some kind of gasp-inducing cliffhanger. The episode, we’re told, involves “a chaotic fight that ends fatally.” 7 p.m., Freeform

Wednesday: On the Season 3 premiere of the brutally funny “You’re the Worst,” Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash) adjust to life in the wake of that surprising “I love you” declaration. We don’t foresee smooth sailing. 9 p.m., FXX

Wednesday: “Greenleaf” has been filled with scandalous secrets and lies, so we’re braced for even more drama as the show closes out its first season. Will Grace (Merle Dandridge) pay a heavy price for bringing shame to her family’s megachurch? 9 p.m., OWN

Thursday: There will be robot blood during the Season 2 finale of “BattleBots.” The action starts with eight competitors looking to capture the ultimate prize: The Giant Nut. And, no, we’re not making this up. 7 p.m., ABC

Thursday: The dysfunctional band at the center of “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” just can’t along. So it seems like a good time for Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies) to go in a new direction and Johnny (Denis Leary) to work on a solo project. 9 p.m., FX

Friday: “Killjoys” wraps up its second season and we’re guessing that someone gets killed. Just a hunch. 8 p.m., Syfy

Saturday: In the new TV film “Backstabbed,” Josie Davis (“Beverly Hills 90210”) plays an upscale real estate agent … a murderous upscale real estate agent. OK, now you’re interested. 7 p.m., Lifetime
