Show Ponies at Rock Island Live
Indie-folk quintet The Show Ponies, whose music is described as bluegrass with country and rock influences, will perform Friday at Rock Island Live, 101 N. Rock Island in Old Town. The group is touring in support of its third release, “Run For Your Life,” while preparing to release a new album in 2016. The show starts at 9 p.m., and admission is $5.
Deep Purple at Kansas Star
Deep Purple, the English rock band that originally formed in 1968, will perform at the Kansas Star Casino’s Event Center Arena, 777 Kansas Star Drive in Mulvane, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Deep Purple is best known for the song “Smoke on the Water.” Tickets to the show are $35 and $55 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Attendees must be 21 or older. ICT Roller Girls back on track
The ICT Roller Girls, Wichita’s all-female roller derby league, will be back on the track Saturday, skating against the VS 580 Roller Girls out of Lawton, Okla. The evening also will feature up-and-comers ICT Heartland Havoc vs. the Salina Sirens. Doors open at 6 p.m., and competition starts at 6:30.
