Wichita State University is hosting the We're Not Back to School Bash starting at 7:30 tonight at the Duerksen Amphitheater, 1845 N. Fairmount. The party features live bands Blue Eyed Soul and The A.J. McCausland Band. Tickets are required and include all-you-can-eat and drink for the duration of the three-hour bash. Tickets are $10 for WSU alumni members and $20 for non-members. The bash is open to alumni and friends over the age of 21. Purchase tickets at wichita.edu/bash.
Partygoers also can stop by the Pumphouse, 825 E. Second St., for the second back-to-school bash of the weekend starting at 8 p.m. Saturday. The band Achachay will be playing live for the night.
Sister Sparrow lands at The Boulevard
Sister Sparrow is bringing its distinct, orchestra-like sound to Wichita at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Boulevard, 900 George Washington Blvd. The powerful female lead singer is backed up by eight talented men playing instruments ranging from the harmonica to the trumpet.
The band started in New York with a vocal and harmonica sibling duo and quickly grew into a nine-person band. Sister Sparrow is known to get its audience up and dancing with its sound that evolves from blues to funk to jazz. Tickets are $15 at the door with a cash bar available.
Nikki Moddelmog is playing back-to-back nights in Wichita this weekend. The Moundridge native is known for her impressive melodies. She'll play with Dennis Hardin and Mark Foley starting at 5:30 p.m. today at The Brickyard, 129 N. Rock Island. The free show will last two hours.
The following night, she is playing with Charisse Kahler at 8 p.m. at the Artichoke Sandwich Bar, 811 N. Broadway. A $5 donation is requested. Moddelmog and Kahler will be on stage until 11 p.m.
