The carnival is in town

Hop on a roller coaster, soar high on a ferris wheel and go on other thrilled rides when the carnival comes to the parking lot of Towne West Square beginning today. Here are the details:

1) The Evans United Shows Carnival is a traveling carnival that offers more than 30 different rides and an assortment of carnival food and games.

2) Rides include the Ring of Fire roller coaster, the Kamikaze spinning car ride and the family favorite, a Ferris wheel. Kiddie rides also are available.

3) Tickets cost $1 each, with the cost of each ride varying. Hours for the carnival are 5:30 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The carnival closes on May 22 .

A good deal

The 45th annual Great Plains Woodcarvers show is this weekend. The show brings together woodcarving artists from throughout the United States for a two-day show and sale. The show includes a judged carving competition, vendors and a carving contest. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cessna Activity Center, 2744 S. George Washington Blvd. Tickets are $3. Children 12 and under get in free with a paid adult.
