Model railroad enthusiasts will find everything they need and want to advance their hobby at the Great Train Expo this weekend in Century II. Here are all the details:
1) The national traveling show will feature more than 200 vendors and hobbyists offering everything from model trains to hobby tools, train whistles, scenery items, T-shirts, videos, railroad gift items, books, photos and more.
2) The show offers a variety of operating model railroad and toy layouts in many different scales and gauges . Those looking to sell old toy trains can get appraisals and offers from dealers at the show.
3) The show is free for kids and kid-friendly. Children can play with toys, operate model trains or hop on a riding train for kids. Adults can participate in free workshops and demonstrations.
Hours for the Great Train Expo are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Century II Exhibition Hall. Tickets are $7 and are good for both days. Children 12 and under get in free.
St. Patrick's Day fun
Start the party early with a St. Patrick's Day parade through the Delano district beginning at noon Saturday. The parade begins at Douglas and McLean and goes west on Douglas to Walnut Street.
