Foxx heeds teen's advice to foster artists

Call her the guardian angel for Jamie Foxx's music career.

The Oscar and Grammy winner says his 16-year-old daughter, Corinne, gave him the best advice when he began recording music.

"When I first started I was doing this little slow music, you know, just R&B ... and my daughter walked in and said, 'What you doing?' I said, 'I'm working on the album.' She said, 'I hope you don't put that on there because you're going to put everybody to sleep,' " Foxx said.

His daughter told him reach out to younger artists to aid in his music career. And that's what the 43-year-old performer did.

In 2005 Foxx released "Unpredictable," a double-platinum album that featured production work and guest appearances from Kanye West, Ludacris and Tank. He followed that with 2008's "Intuition," another platinum CD that featured the Grammy-winning party jam "Blame It." And this week Foxx released "Best Night of My Life"; the album has collaborations with top acts like Drake, Justin Timberlake, Rick Ross and T.I.

"A lot of times in order to be successful with music, you have to listen and sometimes allow other people to sort of steer you in the right direction," Foxx said.

Gates named 'Man of the Year'

Sorry Justin Bieber, but college students aren't your audience.

MTV's college network, mtvU, has crowned Secretary of Defense Robert Gates as its "Man of the Year."

Gates was given the honor because he "became a role model for public service, proving that it's possible to work within an institution to impart change," mtvU said in a statement Wednesday.

The network also commended the 67-year-old Republican for his focus on the youth, gender bias and the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Rapper Nicki Minaj was named "Woman of the Year" for outdoing her male counterparts in the rap field and "calling for an end to homophobia in hip hop."

Those aren't eye drops

Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband had better hope love is blind — or at least one-eyed.

Prince Frederic Von Anhalt is sporting an eye patch these days after accidentally gluing one eye shut with nail glue.

"It was dark and he grabbed his wife's nail glue instead of eye drops," publicist John Blanchette told CNN.

"It was stupid," Von Anhalt said of the incident, which occurred Tuesday morning.

This isn't the first idiotic injury Gabor's husband has sustained. In October, Von Anhalt was hospitalized after being stung by a bee — inside his throat.

He had been sunbathing and eating Kaiserschmarrn, an airy crepe-like dessert, when he managed to swallow a bee, according to TMZ.com. The ingested bee managed to sting Von Anhalt as it made its way through his esophagus.

When the German prince, who was adopted as an adult by Princess Marie-Auguste of Anhalt, returned to the couple's home in Bel Air, Calif., he immediately removed the offending drops from the couple's bedroom.

Von Anhalt will have to keep his eye under wraps for two weeks while he waits for it to heal.
