New Year's fashion: All about Eve

You've made it through the fun holiday events so far and managed to look festive at all of them, but now there's the finale — New Year's Eve. Fear not, you don't have to spend your Christmas bonus to be a knockout as you ring in 2010.

The first step is to look in your closet. A little black dress can easily go from day to night. Black slacks, even those that are part of your most conservative pantsuit, can be part of a showy outfit.

Next, peruse your wardrobe for bright colors. New Year's Eve is the perfect holiday to add a pop of color — lipstick red, bright green, cobalt blue, hot pink — to whatever you're wearing. Save all-black outfits for the rest of the year.

Start at the top. Dress up any hairstyle with a shimmering flower attached to a headband or comb, or sparkling hair clips and pins.

Dramatic earrings, bracelets and necklaces jazz up any outfit with the snap of a clasp.

Switch out a plain belt for one with crystals for a sparkling accent at the waist.

Shed your boots for evening sandals or satin shoes. And for a real kick, choose shoes that are a bright color instead of black.

Many of these items are featured in after-Christmas sales, just in time to help you put together a glamorous New Year's Eve outfit.
